""At the Christmas party last year, we were all kind of going around the circle and my wife actually broke down in tears, hugs Sarah and says, 'I don't know how we would have done this without you.'""
— Jayson Teagle, Founder and CEO
The Challenge
When Jayson Teagle founded Collideoscope in 2015, he kept things lean. With a background in marketing and just a handful of clients, his wife Jamie took on bookkeeping duties. It wasn't glamorous, but it worked — at first.
As the business grew and their family expanded — a two-year-old at home and twins on the way — the strain became unsustainable. Long, late nights spent on monthly invoices were piling up, and Jamie's bandwidth simply couldn't keep pace with a rapidly scaling company. The once-manageable books were now a source of stress for the whole family.
Jayson recognized that growth was making the financials more complex, and that complexity demanded a more strategic approach.
"What starts out to be relatively easy shifts as you try to have clean and compliant books – but at the same time want them done in a way that could be most advantageous as a small business. So the complexity is when you've got to start considering a different option."
The Solution
Jayson didn't find the right fit right away. He explored a couple of other bookkeeping services, sitting through what he described as painful calls with providers who simply weren't a culture match.
"We had two or three interview calls – and it just was painful. They were just not a culture fit."
That changed when he connected with BELAY Bookkeeper Sarah Miles. The difference was immediate.
"We met Sarah and it was an instant 'so glad we did this' kind of thing. Just knowing the BELAY standard of excellence – who [they] look for from a character and competence standpoint."
Sarah didn't just handle the books — she embedded herself into the Collideoscope team. She joined their Slack channel, was added to the company email, and participated in team meetings to stay informed on new projects and upcoming initiatives. Over time, her role evolved into a leadership-level partnership. Jayson now runs every new project and strategy by her before launch.
""She's part of the team; she's integral to what we're doing. She can take what she's doing from a finance perspective and help us make good decisions.""
— Jayson Teagle, Founder and CEOThe Impact
The results of bringing Sarah on board went far beyond cleaner financials. For Jayson and his family, her presence lifted a burden that had quietly weighed on all of them. That reality came into sharp relief at Collideoscope's Christmas party, when Jamie — moved to tears — turned to Sarah and said she didn't know how they would have managed without her.
What made the partnership even more meaningful was its timing. Rather than things getting easier after Sarah joined, the business grew more complex. But having her already in place meant the team was ready.
"When Sarah started, it got even more complex after that. So my wife looked back and was so glad [Sarah] was in place at the time she was. It's just been the perfect partnership with us and Sarah."
For Jayson, the value Sarah brings is both financial and deeply personal.
"It's taken so much off my family. Sarah has brought so much more to the table and has taken a huge burden off our family. So seeing Jamie's gratitude for Sarah at the Christmas party encapsulated [that] yes, this is a really good thing."
