"Leaders need to know their strengths and spend the majority of their time doing in the business what they're strong at, and then surround themselves with people who are strong in the area that the leader is weak. I'm not weak at finance. But my best and highest use is being with people out on the front lines, on Zoom, or on calls. And so she has leveraged me as a leader by putting me in my zone where I need to be."

The Challenge

Keith Cupp, founder and head coach of Gravitas Impact — a worldwide community of premium coaches helping mid-market growth companies thrive — found himself facing mounting financial complexity during a turbulent period of organizational transition just before and during COVID.

While Keith's strength lay in coaching and leading from the front lines, the back-end financial operations of a growing global organization were demanding increasing attention. He needed a specialist who could take on the complexity without hand-holding.

"We wanted to get someone on board who was independent and could help us with our finances, accounting and payables. We needed someone who could help us with the complexity, simplify it, manage it, and then also make sense of it with the right type of reporting."

After being introduced to BELAY at a Dave Ramsey conference in 2019 and following the organization closely in the years that followed, Keith was ready to make the move and bring in the right financial support.

The Solution

BELAY matched Keith with Bookkeeper Trish Anderson, and the fit was immediately apparent. Trish brought a calm, detail-oriented approach that aligned with the core values of the Gravitas Impact team — and quickly got to work bringing order to the organization's financial back end.

In the first few quarters, Trish focused on organizational cleanup and establishing clean, meaningful reporting. Once that foundation was in place, her role naturally expanded into a more strategic one — proactively identifying opportunities to reduce costs and surface insights from the data.

"We had multiple banking relationships. And so as Trish went through and would reconcile statements, she'd take notes. And then she came forward and said, 'Hey, I think we're spending too much here. Are you really using these? I'm seeing these recurring fees or recurring charges, let's investigate.'"

From redundant Adobe accounts to unused social media subscriptions and unnecessary bank fees, Trish identified and helped eliminate charges that, individually seemed minor, but added up to real savings. Keith also credited BELAY Client Success Consultant Sarah for ensuring both the skills and cultural fit were right from the start.

"Delegation was easy once we had confidence, got the [back end] in order, and then moved some more administration things over."

The Impact

The partnership with Trish transformed more than Gravitas Impact's books — it transformed Keith's relationship with his business. With confidence in the financial back end, delegation became natural, and Keith was freed to operate squarely in his zone of genius.

"I've loved delegating. Delegation was easy once we had confidence, got the [back end] in order, and then moved some more administration things over."

Trish has become a seamless extension of the Gravitas Impact team, embodying the company's core values and earning full trust from leadership. As Keith puts it, they simply consider her part of the team.

Beyond the tangible financial value, Keith speaks to a more intangible but equally powerful outcome — the ability to do meaningful work with joy, surrounded by the right people in the right roles.

"There's the financial value of getting a return on someone doing the work... But being able to do it with fun and joy and giving them more work, it's really hard to put a price tag on it. It's [an] intangible value that is almost indescribable at times."
